The Second Team were back at Ham Green against Long Ashton, after losing two on the bounce.
First up Veteran skipper Dice won the toss and elected to Bat. With No Wyatt or Harris, Dawe and Rimon were Lodway's answer to Ducket and Crawley if only in similar heights. Rimon got out the traps quickly pulling Gibbon over square twice in quick succession but falling for 14 with a well caught drive at extra cover. Rendell joined the steady Dawe in the middle. The partnership flourished as Rendell was on the attack with Dawe anchoring the innings. The partnership was at 105 when Dawe was out caught for a well played 46 including 5x4. Young Williamson joined Rendell and kept up the pace rotating the strike. Rendell was out for 93 (177-3) stumped with some sharp work from the keeper, Rendell's 93 came off just 64 balls (9x4 6x6) KP yet again was busy in a short innings also stumped by the keeper. The strong middle order just kept coming at the Long Ashton Bowlers, Rowsell scored 44 off 19 balls (4X4 3X6) before missing a straight one. Shopland was the next man in playing his full range of scoops, rolls and switch hitting with the occasion forward defence. Jolil yet again came in with his usual attacking prowess 16 off 5 balls. Whilst Williamson went about his business at the other passing 50 for the first time in the Second team in the last over hitting 5x4's. The innings concluded on 322-7.
After the break with a big score on the board Williamson and Dawe kept the run rate down to a reasonable rate with Dawe making the breakthrough. The Long Ashton batters then picked up the pace and started to target the small legside boundary. Skipper Dice kept shuffling the pack from the Anchor end. Rex did burgle a wicket after a questionable 2 overs and Derrick also getting punished, even the experienced Rowsell couldn't stop the flow of runs to leg trying to hide the ball on the offside.
A change was needed after drinks Rimon and Rendell were called upon they managed to put the brakes on and give dicer back some control although Hughes did go to a century off 87 balls. Williamson was the man to get Hughes with Rendell taking a good catch at Long on. Which was the match turning point. Rimon (1-47) Williamson (2-41) Rendell (1-41) really put the graft in when it was needed backed up with some quality fielding from Shopland and Parkhouse in the deep. Dicers men had to work hard for their victory but ran out worthy winners.
Looking forward to Shirehampton away next week and a trip to Decades in the British Riviera.
