2nd XI Win Again!

Matty Crutchley3 Jun - 19:06

Lodway make it 5 out of 5, and 99 points out of a possible 100. Written by Sam Shopland.

With the 2 XI playing at home again, they were looking to pick up where they left off last week. With veteran Dicer claiming his captain role back, Lodway had their pre match warm up. Dicer strolled out to the middle to toss up 20 minutes after Dicer went out to toss up, we finally had the answer. Dicer lost the toss again, Nailsea putting us in to bat.

Deano and his famous apprentice Harris strolled out to the middle. Both batters were patient, waiting for the bad ball and putting it away. Before Deano snicked off, leaving the home side 18-1, which brought Rimon to the crease as they looked to rebuild. Both batters found the groove and started hitting boundaries all around the ground. Harris brought up his 50 ( that man needs to go out every Friday …)
However, he only managed to add another 4 runs before he was the second victim to fall with a very nice caught and bowled from Smith, leaving Lodway with a platform of 105-2 off 22 overs. With that wicket, Shoppers found himself at the crease with 3 quarters of his bat. 6 balls later, Shoppers is now scoring runs on the scoreboard machine. Parky came and did what shoppers couldn’t do. Rimon fell 9 short of his 50 with a dodgy LBW from Deano (Definitely jealousy), leaving the sharks 127-4 from 27 overs. Abs joined Parky at the crease as they looked to get maximum batting points. Parky had had enough and decided he wanted to play cricket for once, hitting shots he didn’t know he could play, as he and Abs had an unbeaten partnership of 104 not out to get Lodway to a score of 231-4. Parky finished on 78 of 57 balls with 11,4s, 2,6s and a 4 in which he ran.

With a few names missing for Nailsea, Lodway knew someone had to step up for the opposition. Jack Roberts opened the bowling, fired up after getting some friendly words whilst umpiring. Dicer kept his trusty 7/2 field with Harris in the Corden, and the Nailsea opener fuelled Jack up even more by cutting him for the first ball. Harris dropped the next ball in the cordon, absolute head lost, and placed his self in cover. Will Williamson followed up Jack's opening over by only going for 2 runs. With pressure building early on, Shoppers reminded them they were behind the rate. Robert's pace proved to be too much for the Nailsea team as he got his first wicket as the veteran keeper did what Harris couldn't and held on for a catch. Williamson kept the pressure on the away side with very tight bowling, getting his reward in his 5th over by bowling the Nailsea batter. Roberts struck another 3 time’s steering the game away from the away side. Roberts should have taken 5 wickets, but he dropped one off his bowling. Shannon and Rex bomb came into the attack and got to work straight away. The Nailsea team was moaning about the Lodway wicket, which gave Shopland something to chat about. Rexy struck with his 3 ball after the batter tried to hit Rexy into the anchor, and Rimon took a good catch. Shannon took her first of the match in the following over with Deano taking a catch at mid on, showing his apprentice Harris how it’s done. With Kelly from Nailsea slapping Rexy through cow 3 times, Rexy politely asked Dicer for a cow corner, which the experienced skipper, shouted “bowl outside off", in which Rexy responded with “I don’t want to!“ A couple of swings and a couple of near misses later, Rexy got his second a caught and bowled, leaving the away team 68-8. Abs came into the attack looking to finish the game, however, Rexy came and struck again with a catch over the shoulder from Abs. With Nailsea number 11 being a young player, Dicer brought Williamson back into the attack, which proved to be the right move, as he struck the stumps with his 3rd ball off his second spell, giving the sharks their 5th win of the season and getting maximum points again! A very dominant team performance.

The 2nd XI travel to Wrington, where they will be looking to keep the streak going.
